THE ZULU KINGDOM PLEASED TO HOST THE ILLUSTRIOUS MTN8 FINAL

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government welcomes the announcement of the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium as the host venue for the MTN8 Final between Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC in what promises to be the greatest football showdown in the country’s sporting calendar. 

The final will take place at 18h00 on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

The announcement of the venue doesn’t only cement the uncontested truth that Durban is the best host city for major sporting events, but it further proves that it is no coincidence that The Zulu Kingdom currently has the greatest number of soccer teams competing in the Betway Premiership this season. KwaZulu-Natal is leading all other provinces with a total of five (5) soccer teams namely, AmaZulu FC, Durban City FC, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Richards Bay FC and the newly promoted Milford FC. 

Bringing cup games to eThekwini further increase the number of games played in KwaZulu-Natal much to the delight of soccer lovers and providing the much-needed economical boost to the province’s GDP.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium is no stranger to hosting similar fixtures, with several MTN 8 finals having been hosted at the same venue in the previous few years. The two giants (Pirates and Sundowns) clashed in the final of the 2023 edition, with Pirates emerging victorious following a penalty shootout.

MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Mntomuhle Khawula, said the confirmation of Durban as host will bring excitement to football enthusiasts throughout the country.  

“As the KZN Provincial Government we welcome the announcement of Moses Mabhida as the venue for the 2026 MTN 8 final between the two most successful teams in recent history. The camaraderie and festivities married to the upcoming Final will translate to sold out beds in hospitality establishments around Durban, a boost to the transport sector and much needed relief to vendors who will binge on informal trading opportunities as more than 60 thousand soccer fans will be grabbing refreshments during the game,” said MEC Khawula.

“We are a province of winners; we have proven time and again that we are the sports mecca of South Africa and a destination of choice for major sport and conferencing events. This will also go a long way in motivating local teams to perform well in both their league and cup matches. We promise to be exceptional hosts, and we can assure our visitors that their safety is our priority and great hospitality is guaranteed,” said Mr Khawula.
